PROCEDURES

  • Contact an NEW YORK CITY Handyman office; your job information will be taken by our customer service representative.
  • The NEW YORK CITY Handyman  representative will explain our policies.
  • When a Craftsman with the skills needed is available we will call you to schedule a specific date and time.
  • If the appointment needs to be rescheduled, the office will handle to your convenience.
  • After the craftsman arrives, he will assess your job. He will then ask to use your phone and call the office for a price. This is a FREE estimate. If you agree to the price, he can begin and be there until complete or we can schedule work when convenient for you.
  • Upon job completion and approval, please make payment to CASH and if you pay by check in the memo section write NEW YORK CITY Handyman  . This protects your lien rights and insures your one year written warranty.
  • NEW YORK CITY Handyman  will contact you regarding job satisfaction.

  • FREE Estimates only apply to phone or email estimates. If a project Manager is required to come out and complete a written estimate there is a $75.00 fee. This fee is refunded if you choose us to complete the work.
  • FREE ESTIMATE service does NOT apply to any evaluation, inspection, or written reports that fall outside the scope of a general service estimate, e.g. Childproofing Evaluation, Home/Business Inventory, etc.

 

MATERIALS

  • Estimates are for labor only; materials are additional (Please approve all materials)
  • Craftsman can purchase materials needed for the job or you may furnish
  • You will be shown the receipts -  There is a 20% mark up on all materials we order or locate. 
  • Immediate reimbursement due when receipt(s) total exceed $100 - all materials previously paid for and/or due will be shown on final invoice - make all payments to NEW YORK CITY Handyman 
  • Craftsman can often give a guesstimate but no guaranteed material cost

COUPONS

  • Coupons apply to labor only - not materials
  • Discounts apply only at time of payment on a job or series of jobs performed continuously until completion

CONCEALED PROBLEMS

  • If concealed or unknown problems are discovered during the job, the craftsman will stop all work, advise you and the office, then wait for direction and approval to proceed from you

Most of projects range from small to medium-sized jobs. We carry tools and materials for common jobs on our new custom tool cases that allow our technicians to carry all the necessary tools while using public transportation whenever possible since we have became a green company. Our focus on small to medium-sized jobs means our multi-trade professionals can complete many different tasks in a single visit, some of which were not anticipated at time the appointment was set. This makes us not only knowledgeable about many small repairs, maintenance, installations and improvements, but also efficient to minimize the disruption to you home, business and family.

Do you work with
businesses?
A: Yes. Business property owners have many of the same needs as homeowners. Things break and need to be maintained and repaired. If you own a business and have facility maintenance and repair needs give us a call we can work out a program specific to your property.

Q: Will I have to wait all day for a handyman to show up?
A: No, Not really when we make an appointment we will be there on time and we will tell you from what time to what time we will show up.

Q: What happens if I don't have the required support bracket for my A/C units, can your technician pick it up for me?
A: Yes, our technician will purchase the correct bracket and you will only be charged the cost of the bracket as shown on receipt. However, there is an additional $20.00 service charge for the technicians time and travel expenses to go and purchase these brackets on your behalf.

Q: What if after the A/C is installed there is still places where air is getting in?
A: Our technicians charge between $10.00-$15.00 to professionally insulate your unit to the window using a spray insulation foam that expands and fills in any and all gaps. The cost depends on the amount of insulation needed and units requiring this sealing.

Q: What if I don't want the lock at the top of the window, so I can open it?
A: Unless you have purchased a separate crossbar the top lock MUST be installed, this is what holds the unit in place preventing it from falling down.

What is your guarantee?
A:
Yes we do, We guarantee all workmanship for a period of 1- 12 months, depending on the service provided. If any services we have performed fails during the guarantee period, we will return to fix it.

How do you handle so many different jobs?
A: The keys are a fully stocked vehicle, a multi-trade professional and a focus on small  jobs just like the big which includes a punch list.
Q: How quickly can you come out?
A: We service our clients' need as quickly as is feasible. That usually means we can get to your job with 3 to 7 days. We are not an emergency service. Consequently, same day or next day service is total dependent on service tech availability.

Q: Why hire a professional handyman?
A: This is the best question we get. There are many reasons to hire a professional handyman company. The emphasis is on company. You get the resources of a professional company not just one man with a truck. We are fully insured and have multiple handy persons available with different skills. The company will guarantee your work and insure its completion. Someone is available 24/7 to answer your phone call.

Q: How much do handyman services cost?
A:
Handyman projects are priced by the hour for small jobs (if the project can be completed in a day and/or you already have the materials required), and by computerized estimate for larger jobs (if the project will take more than a day or requires materials to be ordered). Q: Who is my main contact once the project begins?
A:
Your main contact will be with the home repair specialist that is assigned to perform the work on your home. There will be contact with your remodeling consultant throughout the project as well.

Q:How is it determined whether the work will be done on an hourly basis or as a contracted job?
A: The scope of work can will play a role in determining the direction a particular job will take. The general rule of thumb is that if the work is expected to take less than one day to complete, and the materials needed are already purchased or are already known and may be picked up by our Home Repair Specialist; it is considered a time and materials" (hourly) project. If it is expected to take longer than one day or materials need to be ordered, you will be scheduled for a consultation where you will receive a computerized estimate and a contract to complete the project.

Q:Do I need to be home when the work is being performed?
A: It is not necessary for the homeowner to be present while the work is being performed. A key can be left in a lock box that remains at the house until the project is complete.

Q:What is done to protect my home from dust or debris that results from the work?
A: Dust doors are used to separate the area under construction from the rest of the house. Canvas runners cover carpeted areas to reduce the amount of dust that results from construction.

Q:Are subcontractors used to complete the job?
A: In most cases the majority of the work is completed by our in-house craftsman. In certain situations subcontractors may be used. All subcontractors that NYC Handyman uses must undergo a rigorous screening and approval process, so you can be sure your home is safe and work will be completed in a professional manner.

Q:When is payment due on my handyman project?
A: For contracted projects, payment is broken up into three installments. One third is due at contract signing, second third is due at job start, and final payment is due upon completion. For hourly (time and materials) projects, payment is due upon satisfactory completion of the work.
